Alison Layland

Alison Layland grew up in Bradford and, after living in various parts of England, finally settled in mid-Wales where she has been living with her husband and two children since 1997. After studying Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Trinity College, Cambridge, she pursued an 8-year career as a chartered surveyor before returning to her first love, languages, to become a freelance translator from German, French and Welsh. She was Welsh Learner of the Year in 1999 and in 2001 won the short story competition at the National Eisteddfod. Her published translations include the acclaimed novel The Colour of Dawn by Haitian author Yanick Lahens. As well as reading, her interests include travel, all kinds of music, oral storytelling, dabbling in various crafts and walking.
