Ann Oosthuizen lives in Llansteffan. Born in South Africa, she lectured at Rhodes University, where she became involved in anti-apartheid protest. She moved to New York and then to London before settling in Wales in 1981. She has published poetry and short stories in collections and journals. She was a founder member of Sheba publishers, who issued her first novel, Loneliness And Other Lovers. She worked as a translator (from Dutch) and as an editor. Her collection of stories by South African women writers, Sometimes When It Rains, has been translated into German. She taught creative writing in London and Carmarthen and in 1996 she received the Literature of Africa Award for her most recent novel.
