Letitia Mary Davies

Letitia Mary Davies

Letitia Davies was born in 1920 into a family with a long connection to the Raj. Her early years were spent with her grandparents while her parents' matrimonial problems were being resolved. She flitted between a convent in England and trips to a reorganised family in India. When that too collapsed, her mother, financially distressed, moved to south India where Letitia's education was completed. On the outbreak of war she enlisted in the Indian equivalent of the ATS as a cipher operator and served with Southern Army command in India and Ceylon. After the war she worked for a British engineering company in what is now Bangladesh. She was present throughout the horror of Partition and its aftermath. Married with one son, she is now growing old in Wales.
