Lily Tobias

Lily Tobias (1887-1984) grew up in Ystalyfera in the Swansea valley. Her parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland. She was a committed pacifist and two of her brothers were conscientious objectors.
First published in 1933, 'Eunice Fleet' was a radical political novel for its time, making the suffering of pacifists, rather than the suffering of soldiers, its central concern.
