Elizabeth Andrews

Elizabeth Andrews

Elizabeth Andrews was born in 1882 and spent most of her life in the Valleys of the Rhondda. She was a relentless and committed campaigner on the needs of working class women from these mining communities. She was a miner's daughter and so shared their lives, spoke their language and voiced their hopes and fears. In 1919 she was appointed the Labour Party Woman Organiser for Wales, a post that she held for 29 years. She was one of the most influential female political activists of the early 20th century and a key figure in Welsh women's political history. (Pictured centre.)
