Publications for Florence Allen

Florence Allen

Florence Allen was born in Abergavenny in 1907. When she was 18, she married a pit safety man and moved to Bargoed in the Rhymney Valley and stayed there. After the war, bringing up her daughter and two sons alone, she began to write. Florence worked as a door to door insurance agent and as local correspondent to : The Merthyr Express and The Argus. She became a prodigious writer of novels, short stories and stage plays. Her plays have been performed all over the Rhymney Valley, whilst her short stories include a South Wales Echo 'Saturday Story'. At the time of publication of the first edition of Struggle or Starve in 1998 Florence was seeking a publisher for her two novels Black Velvet and Between Heaven and Hell.
