Poem of the Month - July 2014

My Daughter's Clothes by Sue Moules

I don't know these clothes
that I wash for her:
tee-shirts, crop tops, stretchy jumpers,
and filigree skirts.

They twirl on my rotary line,
my daughter's clothes
that come from another city
sparkle with a different life,
charm my painted garden
with their brilliance.

Too soon she's gone,
leaving the odd sock,
a pair of smart jeans.
The washing line looks churlish
as it displays our well-worn greys.
